Vent Crankcase Pressure with Quality Oil Caps and Breathers
Oil Caps & Breathers
Oil mist on the valve covers, residue around the filler neck, or pressure pushing oil past gaskets often points to problems with oil caps or breathers. On classic Chevys, missing caps, incorrect breathers, or clogged vents are common after years of pieced-together repairs. These small parts play a bigger role than they get credit for, especially when crankcase pressure has nowhere to go.
Replacing oil caps and breathers helps the engine vent properly and keeps oil from escaping where it shouldn’t. A correct setup can reduce leaks, limit oil contamination in the engine bay, and help seals last longer. Many restorations address caps and breathers while cleaning up top-end issues in the valve cover area or when tracking down oil control problems tied to worn engine gaskets, since proper ventilation supports everything else sealing correctly.
