Tailpipes

Tailpipes are often where aging exhaust systems start to show their condition. Rusted bends, crushed sections, or pipes that no longer line up with the rear valance are common on classic Chevy Camaros, Chevelles, and El Caminos that have seen decades of road use. Even if the front half of the system has been replaced, old tailpipes can throw off alignment and leave the rear of the car looking unfinished.

Replacing tailpipes helps correct routing, restore proper exit location, and eliminate weak spots that can eventually leak. Fitment matters here, especially around leaf springs, fuel tanks, and rear valances. Many restorations address tailpipes after installing a new exhaust system or dialing in final alignment with fresh exhaust hangers and clamps, since the rear section depends on solid support and proper spacing to sit correctly.
