Water Pumps

Swap Out Worn or Noisy Water Pumps
Water Pumps
A coolant drip at the front of the engine, wobble at the pulley, or a grinding noise that changes with RPM often points to a failing water pump. On classic Chevy Camaros, Chevelles, or El Caminos, seals dry out, bearings wear, and components corrode after decades of use and storage. Sometimes the only warning is a slow temperature climb that gets worse over time.
Replacing the water pump restores proper coolant circulation and eliminates leaks that can damage belts and surrounding components. Correct rotation and pulley alignment matter, especially on engines that have seen bracket or accessory changes. Many restorations address water pumps while correcting cooling issues tied to radiators or stabilizing airflow with updated fans and fan shrouds, since steady coolant flow and proper airflow work together to keep temperatures in check.
